Walk for Wintergerst

The Story:

The past 3 months have been a long but miraculous journey for our sweet friend Carolyn. On April 26th Carolyn suffered an unexpected and unimaginable medical emergency. For the first few weeks her recovery was touch-and-go. Doctors said the best case scenario would be that she would wake up but would most likely be unable to speak and/or have cognitive and physical deficits. However, those of us who know Carolyn Wintergerst, know that she is nothing less than extraordinary. Through a true miracle and the power of prayer, Carolyn woke up three weeks later(talking and moving!). Over the past few months, she has had to endure several surgeries and several weeks of therapy in Frazier Rehab. As of about two weeks ago, she is now home and more determined than ever to make a full recovery.

This is where YOU come in...

We all know the saying "it takes a village" and Carolyn's village has shown up for her in big ways. We are so thankful for the prayers, dinners, phone calls, texts, Facebook messages, and more to encourage and support her on this long journey to recovery. A big part of Carolyn's recovery is regaining the use of her left side. She is currently in physical therapy working on strengthening those muscles that were weakened by the trauma from her brain injury, as well as having to be in a hospital bed for an extended period of time.

The Need:

Anyone who knows Carolyn, knows that she (literally) never stops! Running each morning and spending time with her girls at cross country meets and soccer games has been very important to her over the past few years. We would like to help her get back to those things! Right now, Carolyn is working hard in physical therapy to learn to walk again with the assistance of a cane. However, there is a life changing device that can aid in her recovery and enable her to walk again for longer periods of time, with a more natural gait, and most importantly, without a cane.

This device is called the L300 Go Thigh Cuff. This device uses electrical stimulation to help with stability, bending and straightening the knee, reduces falls, and helps the person to be able to walk more naturally.

Along with this device, there is a second device that would allow for her to regain the movement and use of her hand and fingers in her left arm.

<<<Check out this video to see how it works! >>>

The Goal:

We all know that medical care is not cheap! Spending three months in the hospital and rehab, as well as multiple surgeries, has left Carolyn's family unable to purchase these devices, especially since they are not covered by insurance.

This cost of these devices typically runs around $7,000 a piece. (O-M-G, Right?!)

Anyone who knows Carolyn, knows that she ALWAYS puts the needs of everyone else before her own. She would never dream of asking for help, but that is the beauty of being a part of someone's "village". You get to offer help, even when they don't ask for it.

This is YOUR opportunity.

An opportunity to give back to a beautiful person who has given more of herself to us than we could even put into words.

Our goal is to raise the 14k as quickly as possible so please DONATE and SHARE! And THANK YOU for being a part in Carolyn's journey to recovery.

Special note!
In an effort to support and encourage Carolyn on her road to recovery, whether you are able to donate or not, we would like for you to do something quite simple...

Walk, jog, or run a mile(or 2 or 10!). You can do this by yourself, with a friend, or with your family. Then, post a picture with a note of encouragement and add the hashtag #walkforwintergerst so that she can see them. We would love to lift her spirits with all of your smiling faces!
