Our 5th graders organized a walk-a-thon to raise funds for clean water in South Sudan. As part of their learning experience, students read the book A Long Walk to Water, which tells the inspiring story of Salva Dut, one of the Lost Boys of Sudan. This unit not only highlights the conflict in the region but also sheds light on the water crisis faced by many countries around the world.
Last year, our fundraiser brought in $3,311. We invite you to consider donating to this worthy cause to help provide access to clean water for those in need. Thank you for your support!

Why support Water for South Sudan:
• More than 2 million children in South Sudan do not attend school.
• Children-- mostly girls-- walk up to four miles (6.5 km) per day to a water source.
• Jerrycans filled with water can weigh up to 40 pounds (18 kg) when full of water.
• Girls (sometimes boys) use jerrycans to collect water for their families.
• Walking for water leaves little time for education, especially for girls.

Between Wednesday March 4th and Friday, March 20th, students will gather pledges. On March 20th, classes will walk the Green carrying a container of water while their teacher will record their laps. (send in an empty gallon jug, liter bottle, laundry container) Donations are due Wednesday, March 31st. The class that collects the most money will earn a pizza party! (In order for a class to receive credit via a GoFundMe donation, be sure to include your name and the student’s grade/class when making the online donation.)
