Our son Amell is an amazing 7 year old boy living with right sided hemiplegic Cerebral Palsy, caused by 2 separate injuries in his brain. With bravery, resilience, and a smile on his face, Amell embraces the challenges of his CP. He is unable to stand or walk unaided, and has limited use of his right limbs.
Unfortunately, due to Amell's hemiplegia, his hip joints have deformed, which has also pulled Amell's right leg 5cm out of place making it even more impossible for Amell to balance. He is at serious risk if developing scoliosis of the spine due as a result.Amell can no longer walk for a period of more than 10 minutes without feeling fatigued and discomfort.
In order to prevent this, correct Amell's gait and ensure Amell is not in any physical pain he is due to undergo an extensive double hip operation, and leg muscle lengthening surgery on 5th September 2019.Amell will be bed bound and in a body brace for 6 weeks, and likely to be wheelchair bound for up to one year following the procedure. This will be a huge change for Amell, as he loves the independence his Walker gives him.
As such, we are raising funds to pay for intense specialist physiotherapy rehabilitation for Amell following his surgery, to reduce the amount of time he will be wheelchair bound, and get him back up on his Walker running around, enjoying childhood as he does now.
