For my Dad's birthday this year, I am collecting money to support his ministry to the people in St. Vincent as they endure the devastating eruptions of the La Soufriere volcano.
St. Vincent is not just a beautiful island, it is the homeland of my parents and where they currently reside. Both my Mom and Dad were born in St. Vincent and I honestly believe that St. Vincent is my Dad's first love (after God) and right now, there is nowhere he would rather be. As difficult as this is for us (Keren, Kevin, Andrew, and I) to be in the States and so far away, we know that he is called to ministry and to taking care of others. Because of my Dad's background and drive, he is a boots-on-the-ground kind of guy and he can make things happen. He has been fundraising and organizing since the first eruption on April 9.
This is a man who led a work team from St. Vincent to Haiti after the earthquake in 2010 and with Roland Joynes decided that they were going to “Build a home. Start the Village Of Hope”. Through the generosity of many of his friends and churches throughout the US and Caribbean, they have built 33 homes and counting ... (Read more about Home by Home here.)
Now St. Vincent needs help and I want to help him and all of the people on the island.
Please continue to pray for Mom and Dad's health and their safety. The sulfuric ash covers every part of the island and gets inside the house even with all the windows and doors closed. I encourage them to wear their masks at all times - even indoors.
All funds raised will go directly to my Dad (Rev. E. Walford Thompson) and will be used to purchase food and goods in the short term for the people in the shelters on St. Vincent.
