Wake-A-Thon 2020 - 918 Griffon RCACS

The Air Cadets program is a free program for youths age 12 to 18. It is an extremely admirable program that introduce our youth to the field of aviation. It provides skills training such as leadership, effective speaking, music, marksmanship, survival and teamwork just to name a few. It keeps our youth on the right path in life, boost their confidence, and guide them to be great citizens of Canada where many of them contribute back to our local communities.

The 918 Griffon Squadron was officially established on November 19, 2018. We are an offshoot from a large Air Cadet squadron where we initially had only 60-80 cadets. Although we are only on our second year of operation, we have already expanded to nearly 200 cadets strong. It is true that the Air Cadets program is partially funded by the Department of National Defence, however, this is only a fraction of our expenses in providing and sustaining a meaningful program to our youth. Being a newly establish non-profit without large funding sources (ie: Casino fundraising), and with the rate of growth in attracting youth to our squadron, we are facing some urgent challenges in supporting our squadron financial needs. With parent donations and continuous fundraising efforts, we are unfortunately still falling short of our funding goals to meet our needs for this year.
