Wailotua Dist. School Computer Lab
Donation protected
Electricity came this year to Wailotua District School, a rural primary school in Fiji. There are 80 enthusiastic students in grades 1-8, and 4 teachers. We (Adele and Miriam, two volunteers from Australia) are helping the teachers and were selected, in part, for our computer skills. We helped office staff with their first computer; but there is no way for students to learn computer skills. We believe in the importance of IT education, as the world we live in is a constant whirlwind of technological advancements. Access to computers from an early age will help the students build skills necessary for further studies, jobs and careers.
There is a room which can become a computer lab, elecricity but no wiring, and enthusiasm but no funds to buy computers or cabling. The school has limited funds; for example the teacher's house we shared relies on water carried in buckets. We have been working to establish a computer lab, and you can help too. We can source suitable refurbished desktop PC&s (software included) from Interconnection – a company which refurbishes old computers and sells them cheaply to places in need. We have the space ready and waiting for the computers and simply need funds to proceed. We estimate a total of $2000 is needed to buy ten computers and set up the lab. Some staff have enough skills to give the students a start, and future volunteers can assist with skills development. Your donation, however small (or big!) can make this happen. The students appreciate your donations and support for their future. Please share this with your friends so they can help too.
Thank you,
Miriam & Adele
