Waffles is a 9.5 year old husky-mix who I adopted when she was barely 3 months. She showed me what unconditional love means. Waffie loves to run, swim and dig, be outside and observe her surroundings. She loves to play with her brother Boey (formerly Minty), whom she's been an amazing support for after his past traumatic experiences.
But Waffles has been declining in front of my eyes. Her kidneys are failing; she is under cardiac strain, and her entire body is under stress. Fluid accumulates around her organs, which causes visible bloating, a severely reduced appetite and inability to eat enough, and restricts her breathing due to pressure on her lungs. She has multiple masses throughout her body, including one that is around 2 inches in size.
These symptoms have intensified in recent weeks. We live in Texas, and the rising temperatures have made her condition even more challenging, causing her health to decline faster. Her energy and mobility are lowered, and she does not handle heat above 75F well, even though she used to enjoy Texas summers.
The focus now is on easing her symptoms, discomfort, and pain, and giving her the best quality of life in the time she has left. Since her condition worsened last year, she has been on a special home-cooked diet with high-quality nutrients and supplements, as they are crucial given her compromised ability to eat.
If I don't get her out of Texas soon, she will not be with us much longer. We need to relocate by the end of April to a cooler climate that does not reach beyond 75-80F year-round. Waffie deserves to spend her remaining time as comfortably as possible. Please help me fund her nutrition, ongoing care, aid for organ function, vet visits, and our relocation travel costs, as these combined costs exceed what I can cover alone. Please share Waffles' story with anyone who might help. Waffles, Boey, and I are grateful for any support!
