Hello, my mother Laurie Waditaka and father Lawrence, sister Kaylene, Mary and brother Hunter lost their home to a house fire lastnight.

My mom was doing her practicum at the Jim Pattinson Hospital during this time. My brother Hunter was fighting a forest fire in a different community, so he only has his fire fighter outfit and no clothes, shoes etc.

My family didn’t have time to grab anything and they lost everything.

My family are all hard workers. My sisters work at the Wahpeton School.

They are all good people. Very much in their Dakota Cree Culture. Always at ceremonies, and always helping everyone in the community of Wahpeton.

My mother is one of the most helpful people I know, always cooking for every event such as wakes, funerals, feasts etc.

My sister supports so much Indigenous businesses and lost all her ribbon skirts, hundred earrings, necklaces, her jingle dresses, and all her sewing supplies, so much material, ribbon spools, sewing machines etc. (as she makes ribbon skirt orders for people across North America).

My sister Mary had bought herself everything new: her bed, dresser, her room was so nice and she kept good care of all her stuff.
