My name is Sam, and I am the secretary at Wadebridge Cricket Club.
It is the most beautiful venue running alongside the Camel Estaury in North Cornwall.
Cricket was first played in Wadebridge in 1850, with the Club playing in the Wadebridge & District League before joining the Eastern Section of the Cornwall League in 1947.
During the 1950’s, our current clubhouse was built to accommodate the teams of the time. The clubhouse provided a small social area and very small changing rooms that just about squeezed 11 players in each. Great when the club only had one senior team.
Due to the success of the club and growth in numbers over the years, our facility now plays host to 3 full Senior teams, playing in the Premier division, County 1 and Division 5, a Ladies and Girls softball and hardball team, and Junior membership of over 100 children ranging from the age of 5 upwards through the Allstars and Dynamos programs.
Obviously our premises are no longer suitable or up to standard to allow us to continue to facilitate the numbers of members we have in our present-day club.
For many years, the club and its committee and members have tirelessly undertaken numerous fundraising events and other initiatives, to accumulate enough funds to begin our renovations.
With approx. £100k raised, and an application to the ECB for further grants and loans accepted, we have finally been able to raise the money needed to start the development.
Throughout the autumn and winter of 2023 and into the Spring of 2024, works began for the long-awaited Clubhouse Redevelopment.
The build has been slow due to the recent weather and costs have soared since our first quotes and tenders, and we now need to find ways to finish what we have started, and to provide the most excellent facility for the town and future generations of cricketers. We are now so close to our first target.
Please help us in any way you can, to raise the final amount needed to complete phase 1 of the project, which will give our 200+ members the much needed upgrades to toilets and changing room facilities for decades to come.
