Wade Vander Maten Medical Fund
Donation protected
Friends, family, colleagues and communities have reached out asking how they can support the Vander Maten family during this medical event.
Wade was hospitalized on Dec. 9th due to a blood infection. The infection caused a hole to form in the mitral valve of his heart and a blood clot also caused damage to his spleen. The infection has tested positive for staph, so the first priority is to get rid of the staph infection. Then, he will likely need 6 weeks of antibiotics via IV before he can have surgery to repair or replace the valve. The hope is to have the valve repaired at Mayo clinic after the antibiotic regimen is complete. Although the exact future is unknown, he is likely facing weeks to months of hospitalization, possibly far from home.
Wade and Abbie have 4 amazing kids, the youngest being less than a month old. Abbie has faced and continues to recover from her own health issues throughout the pregnancy and hospitalization for post-partum preeclampsia. They both teach 4th grade and Wade is also a basketball and track coach. The Rock Valley Community School is rallying around this family and we are grateful for friends and family who are helping in so many ways.
We ask for your continued prayers for health and recovery and God's grace and comfort during the journey.
Donations from this page will go directly to Wade and Abbie to help with current medical, travel, and future expenses they will face on the journey to full health and recovery. It is managed by Abbie's sister, Courtney. If you would rather give directly, Abbie's venmo is @AbbieVanderMaten.
