Asking for money is never easy for people who have worked all their adult life and are independent. I have written this story multiple times and how I would present this. So I'll start at the beginning.
Eleven years ago Alex came into my life. I never met anyone that reached me on a level that was so high and pure. His heart is so big and judgement free. He loves his family and his " fur kids". He also loves the lord. When I married this man, I told him he was my rock, my best friend and, partner in everything.
Fast forward to this troubled year. In April, Alex shaved down his beloved beard to have PPE masks fit properly to his face. When I came on on that evening, I noticed a rather large lump on the side of his neck. Shocked, he ran to the bathroom and documented the lump with pictures and a quick note to his primary DR . He heard back from his doctor, judging just form pictures of course, that it was probably just an infection.
I was not happy with that answer, and neither was his mother. We pressed him to go to the DR and have it properly checked. After tests, we found out it was Stage 2 cancer of an unknown source. At the same appointment, it was recommended that he also have his tonsils removed since it was showing up on his PET scan.
June of this year, Alex had his tonsils removed and recovered from that surgery. Beginning of July, Alex started his radiation treatment (35 total) as well as his Chemo Therapy ( 7 treatments). About week 4 ( Beginning of August) Alex lost his ability to swallow foods and most liquids. He was admitted to the hospital because of this. His white blood cell count was extremely low. It was decided at that time Alex was to have a stomach tube ( PEG tube ) . But before that, his white blood cell count need to be raised. He under went a series of shots to help with this.
Because of all the trauma his body has been through, it is now having a difficult time healing. He has lost 50lbs. He still cannot eat a meal let a lone take a full drink of water. He is dealing with a severe case of Mucositis. Which sadly is part of his healing. Every healthcare professional I speak with say he is a special case or unique case. See, that is not Alex. He does not want to stand out or have people notice him. He just wants to be. Alex has been in the hospital for 2 months now. I have only been able to see him once. This pandemic has really not been on our side. It is killing us on the inside that we can't hug each other or hold each others hands.
The money you help us raise will keep a roof over our heads as well as our lights on while doing it. Alex is the main bread winner in this relationship. Alex hasn't worked since May. It is hurting him so much that he can not work. He loves his job. We have exhausted our savings. Things are starting to look bad. We have sold one of our cars as well as some of our valuables.
Currently Alex is at Bay Pines VA medical center in St. Petersburg, Fl. We are forever in the debt of the VA system because of the care Alex has received. Him being an Air Force Veteran has given him so many life values. He is proud of the years he has given to our country. I just hope he is able to come home to us soon.
Thank you for your time in reading our story. God bless you and yours.
