Kidney disease + Cancer Diagnosis + Mother dies in a tragic Car Accident days before Christmas

In March of 2020 Kallie Wagenaar (then 12) was diagnosed with FSGS. Focal Segmental Glomular Sclerosis. A rare kidney disease after not being well for a couple of months. She has been in and out of hospital in Thunder Bay and London On for the last 2 years.

An infected line last spring saw her staying in London for almost three months to stabilize the resulting kidney failure. Finally in August 2021 she was able to come home after being started on peritoneal dialysis that she could do at home overnight, she was doing well and even started in person high school.

 

Come mid fall she was having some symptoms unrelated to kidney disease and went into emergency....

She was flown out to London where a biopsy was done and cancer diagnosed.

Hodgkin’s lymphoma is easily treated in healthy individuals , but her kidney disease complicates treatment. Her medical team says that she needs to be in London for 7 months of chemotherapy and radiation which started on Monday December 20th. The Family is currently staying at Ronald McDonald house in London and planned to spend Christmas there.

 

If that wasn't hard enough......

 

On Tuesday December 21st Kallie and Judah’s mother, Lauren Whitburn, was killed in a tragic car accident just west of Thunder Bay On.

A terrible tragedy added onto the already stressed family at Christmas time, just days after Judahs birthday.

 

As the now sole parent, Lyndon (Father) will be unable to work and will also be looking for a place to rent close to the Children’s Hospital in London until treatment is done.

 

A long road ahead of this family leaves them in the hospital for the next 7 months, away from their home for the holidays, and now after losing their mother on Dec 21st, these kids will have to grow up without there mother and support.

Lyndon (father) has lost his parenting partner and will have to learn to navigate this life as the sole parent of his kids, a heavy load to carry, especially with a sick child.

 

I believe this family could use some help.

They are hurting. They are sad and they can use all the prayers and financial help they can get at this point, to help them get through the next 7 months away from their home and to try to move forward with life without their mother.
