My name is Janeane and I am a military spouse and we are stationed in San Diego, CA. My husband spends almost all of the time away for training and deployments with the Marines. Because of this I suffer from severe depression and anxiety. We have no children and I recently had my closest support group move away. To help coop with his absence I have found happiness and relief in an emotional support dog. My dog's name is Bane and I brought Bane home during my husband’s 4th deployment, his 3rd to Afghanistan. When I brought Bane home he was a mere 6 weeks old. I knew immediately he would be the light of my life.
I work for one of the largest full line exotic pet stores on the west coast, Pet Kingdom. I thankfully have an amazing boss and awesome coworkers to help keep me busy and distracted from the stress of my everyday life. One of these awesome distractions is that the owner allowed me to bring Bane with me to work every day to help socialize him and keep a smile on my face even though Bane was a messy puppy. Many of our customers became very attached to Bane, it’s not every day you get to meet a wolf hybrid. My shy puppy loved to spend his days under my work counter by my feet and if I ever wondered too far away he would come looking for me. He also enjoyed hiding behind the front counter, under shelves, inside empty cages that were floor level and anything else he could manage to fit in. Everyone loved Bane. He practically became a store icon. People wrote about him on Facebook, called to check in on him, and always had someone checking under my work counter to see if he was around. He may have been shy, but that did not stop the crowd he drew.
Due to Banes genetics, being a second generation hybrid he is still prone to many common flaws his wild relatives have. One being very shy in front of people. We quickly realized he is extremely affectionate to me and sees me as a mom of sorts because I am the one who raised him. He is very active, goofy, playful and overall such a joy to have in my life. I honestly cannot imagine how dull my life might be if I never had this amazing best friend step in. The biggest flaw of all is that he has an extremely weak stomach.
I am currently going through my worst fear. My best friend is very sick. Bane currently is undergoing surgery. Due to his genetics, hybrids are very susceptible to having weak or sensitive stomachs. I first realized this while he was just a baby. The slightest change in his diet would cause extreme amounts of diarrhea and reek havoc on my home. Unfortunately, Bane has only been able to withstand such internal drama for so long before a more serious illness took place. I quickly knew something was wrong when an average spout of diarrhea turned into a fountain of blood literally pouring out of him. I cannot describe the pain I felt watching my best friend scream in pain and I had no way of helping him.
I raced to the vets office the moment I was able to see what was wrong and how we could help him. After visiting Bane’s primary physician we were sent off to an emergency care center for further testing. After a series of tests the experts finally concluded that Bane had intussusception.
Basically intussusception refers to an inflammation of the intestines, a portion of the intestine that has slipped out of its normal place (prolapse), and a portion of the intestine that has folded (invagination). This change in the shape of the intestine can cause the affected portion of the intestine to slip into an adjoining cavity or duct in the body. This caused a portion of Banes intestine to die and immediately undergo surgery to remove the dead tissue, fix the prolapse and reattach the unaffected tissue. This also is a fairly expensive procedure that is getting higher and higher as the moments pass.
Bane underwent his surgery today (Thursday, June 4th 2015) at 2:30 PM. So far the surgery has been a success and he is sitting in post-op for observation. It appears there was no complications and all is well. I will be able to transfer Bane back to normal Doctor tomorrow (Friday, June 5th 2015) if the evening goes well. The down side to this is that they will not allow him to leave the emergency facility until his bill is paid in full.
I was advised to apply for Care Credit to help cover my payments and make for an easy way to pay off Banes medical bills. Unfortunately, I was not approved for the total amount. I was actually approved for a very small portion. I am now forced to find the remaining balance elsewhere. I currently have many maxed out credit cards and due to really poor timing, just paid off my last personal loan. My credit is horrible and I have nowhere else to turn to cover the balance. I am reaching out for help. I need my baby back in my arms and in my life. I would appreciate any help I can get. I have never done this before and I absolutely never wanted anything to happen to my Bane. If you are able to help or know someone who can please let me know or send them this way.
Thank you everyone. You have no idea how much your help means to me.
