Jack's Journey
Life takes many an unexpected turn, and I think we can all agree that we often need to stick together to keep the wheels on the road.
For two of my very dear friends, that involves the emotionally and financially challenging decision to send their 15-year old son to a therapeutic boarding school.
Growing up is hard enough, but, for Jack, the stakes are significantly higher. As a young child, he was diagnosed with Nonverbal Learning Disorder (NLD), a condition on the autism spectrum. Education, social situations, and interpersonal relationships have all proven challenging, which have led him to struggle with mental illness and drug addiction.
Jack enjoys challenging his mom and sharing secrets with her. He loves teasing his little sister, skateboarding, video editing and roughhousing with his dog.
Though he’s currently a part of a short-term residential program, Jack isn’t making the strides needed. He’s a phenomenal young man whose needs require that he get extra help.
His parents have turned to God for strength and support and have reached the difficult decision that a therapeutic boarding school is the best choice for accommodating Jack’s needs. Even Jack is coming to realize the importance of taking a more drastic approach.
As you all know, the best decision is rarely the most affordable, and, to make matters worse, insurance may cover just a small portion of the program, which costs $7,000/month.
That’s where we come in. Every little bit helps, and by pooling our resources, we are confident we can make a big difference in Jack's life.
