Help Porky Stay Alive

Hi everyone,

Porky, our sweet Chinese Shar-Pei, is fighting kidney disease from Familial Shar-Pei Fever in addition to corneal ulcers, and we need your help to get her the care she deserves. She is currently recovering at home after spending 5 days in the ICU at Toronto Animal Health Partners Emergency and Specialty Hospital. (UPDATED JUNE 4 2025)

At only 4 years young, Porky has always been full of energy, love, and licks. She's the youngest in our pet family (Pepe the cat & Phrank the snake) but shares the most memories with all our friends and family.

Unexpectedly at the beginning of May, she was hit with a high fever including extreme lethargy, diarrhea, loss of appetite, and a troubling cough. We’re terrified for her. These symptoms have been ongoing for the past few weeks with no improvement. Vet visits, tests, and medications have already cost us thousands of dollars, and we still don’t have a clear diagnosis. We have been quoted upwards of $10,000 to conduct further examinations without any certainty or guarantee of progress. Shar-Peis are prone to unique health issues (like Shar-Pei Fever), and specialists suspect it could be something serious. Every day is a battle to keep her comfortable while we search for answers.

We recently just moved into our new home in Toronto, and with our tight budget, these unexpected medical bills are overwhelming. While we both work full-time jobs + side gigs alongside travelling between uptown & downtown, we try our hardest to give Porky 100% of our time. We’re doing everything we can, but we can’t do it alone. We’re humbly asking for your support to help cover some of Porky’s medical expenses - whether it’s for more tests, treatments, or specialist visits.
