Laura, but pernounced as Lawra, is our beautiful friend of 11 years. She is just 31 years old and has been there for our family in so many ways through our hardships. She is an Angel to us and has always been the best example to our children of what it is to be a kind, generous, loving, funny, accepting, independant and courageous woman.
After the incredible impact she had in our lives and on many others including her own family who she supports, you can imagine the shock and devistating news we received when she told us about her totally unexpected diagnosis.
She shared with us how the spacialist had told her that she has an inoperable malignant brain tumor, a Malignant Glioma -Glioblastoma to be exact, deep down inside her brain. She had been suffering with dreadful headaches for a year or two prior to this and has been back and forth for test and scan to be told there was nothing unusual. She was the pinacle of health and looked after herself so well.
Laura is a very quite and private person and so independant that she has tried so hard to do most of this journey alone. She has kept on working throughtout this illness trying all the conventional treatments such as, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Sadly it caused horrendous side effects and the specialist decided that it was no longer a safe or wise route for her. They suggested she needs to look for other alernatives treatments of any kind, as they have nothing else to offer her.
Treatments here in the UK are limited and the position of the tumor is considered inoperable by the many various specialist she has paid to see. They wont risk it because its so deep in her brain that the risks of immedite death, paralasis, or loss of hearing, eye sight or personality change are very high. Laura went on searching for other options trying and continues to access natural alternative that are bearly affordable to her now, like therapeautic grade essential oils, hemp oil, natural healthy living and juicing etc.
Laura got herself to a clinic in New York where she had more tests to see if their treatment could work for her. Sadly it wasn't suitable either. She found that it had got bigger and she had two more growing from the origional one. She never had a day off work sick all throught this process and earned all her own money to pay, refusing help of any kind. Eventually after further updated scans on her return home Laura was forced to leave work a few month back as the pain was so bad she was too weak to work now, knowing that it was grown more rapidly.
Symptoms were increasing, she started to have paralasis in her legs that would come and go and more recent her eyes have become sensitivity to light. She did not qualify for any benefits for a long time, so she was forced to resumb work again doing bits here and there when she could despite the pain, but it is becoming so unberable she will need to stop now.
Laura has hardly slept for over two years, getting no more than 45 minutes maximum in any day. Some days she will not sleep for a few at time. She now has qualified for some benefit money, but this doesn't even cover her portion of rent. Her friends and family are helping where they can but money is so very tight for all. Even her church are supporting too but it's not enough.
Laura has found a possible new treatmet in Boston at the Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Centre and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, where she has her last hope of trying to either prolong her life or find a cure. She has been told she's within her last 3 months before she departs this world and we need to help her to have the best chance of survival. We have no idea what the outcome will be, but we need to try all we can. Laura is not worried about herself her pain comes from not being able to support her family financially, which she's always done and seeing their hurt and pain as they watch her become more ill. This is the thing she finds the most difficult.
We need to raise funds to pay for her treatment in Boston and have money to buy food. Our Bishop is doing his best to call on contacts in Boston to see if he can find her accommodation and Her boss is paying to fly her over there.
Please can you help is in anyway possible no matter how small, even if it's just a penny. Every penny will count towards helping this beautiful lady find some peace knowing that what ever the outcome will be she did her best and tried everything and then she can at least give this peace to her family. Perhaps we could even raise enough to continue to support them for a while too.
Please help us to spread the word. This is an urgent situation, we really don't have time to wait. We need to get her to the clinic now before it's too late. If we reached 10,000 people and they all donate a pound each we'd reach our target. Thank you for your help and if you feel you can't help please pass this link to someone you know who can. Lets make a difference to our Angel Laura and her family. Thank you with all our heart.
