Emily's Fight

Donation protected
Hi everyone,

My name is Tony Cappuccilli and I am a friend of Emily Waldon's. As you are surely aware of by now, our dear friend Emily has been diagnosed with breast cancer. I am putting together this Go Fund Me campaign for Emily, because if you know Emily, you know she would do the same for us. As difficult as Emily's diagnosis is to come to terms with, we know she will fight this with the love and care of so many friends who are in her corner. However, the reality is that there is a cost associated with her fight. Costs which have already been incurred, costs she knows are looking her square in the eyes, and unknown costs which may be awaiting her in the near future and further down the road. My hope is that as friends and supporters of Emily, we can help minimize the financial stresses so she can focus on her fight and recovery.

Many of us, myself included, know Emily through baseball. Baseball has created countless memories and friendships for so many of us involved in the game, and has led us to friends we never would have met. If you have ever had the opportunity to personally meet Emily, interact with her on social media, or carefully read the work she produces, you know she is one of the most caring, authentic people we could ever hope to come across in our lifetime. Her professionalism and positivity rubs off on everyone she is surrounded by. Her optimism for the best version of our game is inspiring. Her hope for inclusion by all who are invested in our great game comes from the most heartfelt place imaginable. Her desire to produce fair, accurate and positive work is a breath of fresh air in an industry which commonly wants to see the exact opposite. Emily focuses on building people up and telling the story that we all want to hear, from the standpoint of truth, compassion, and humanity. Emily's constant advocacy for minor league players is a welcome and much needed voice for a group that often times has no voice at all.

There is no greater example of the impact Emily has had on our industry in baseball, as the outpouring of support she has seen on social media over the past 48 hours. I have been overwhelmed to see how many people have commented or shared posts about Emily's impending fight while offering up words of support and encouragement. I know she has the support of thousands of people who have followed her and got to know her over the years. Now it's our turn to help support her!

Many of us have friends or loved ones who have been affected by all types of cancer. As of October 2020, it was reported that over 275,000 women will be affected by breast cancer. The average price of treatment ranges from $20,000 and $100,000. Although the cost can vary significantly based on the stage of cancer, at this point I think it is important to start getting funds together for Emily and help reduce her concern over medical bills so she can put her whole focus on her fight. She does not know the stage of cancer as of today, but we all know that regardless of stage, she is going to fight like crazy. My goal is to make sure she has the financial backing to receive the best care possible, to successfully put this behind her, and continue on with the impactful life she already lives.

Let's all get together and spread the word to help ensure Emily gets the care she needs to beat this. Let's help to make her journey to recovery quick and complete, and see that the financial concerns of her medical care is eased by all of us as much as we can.

Thank you so much!
Tony
