In Canada it is reported that 44% of women have experienced some form of intimate partner violence. In Mexico that number is much higher. Thankfully, the shelters to support victims of domestic violence in Canada are supported. The shelters in Mexico do not have the same kind of funding system.
There is a shelter in Guanajuato that typically receives roughly 30% of its funding from the government. The rest must be done through fundraising and donations. This year their program funding was inexplicably reduced. That leaves them short $70,000 dollars. The only way to raise money to keep this shelter operating with what they have in place (social work, teacher, nurse, lawyer) is by donation. México does not have platforms such as go fund me.
Domestic violence does not discriminate. It is very likely you know someone who has been affected by it. The women and children who have been brave enough to escape violence situations no matter where they are, deserve a chance to begin a safe new life. Every dollar helps. Thank you for your consideration
