To say that 2019 was one of the hardest years for the Wilkins family would not even begin to do it justice. This fundraiser was started out of love and support for Mike and Sue, and their three beautiful daughters, Brooke, Rachel, and Isabelle. So many people have asked how they can help the Wilkins family. Through all things the Wilkins have shown incredible strength and faith as they navigated from one heath issue to the next. Sue was diagnosed with breast cancer in June of 2019. Since then, she has bravely undergone surgery then radiation. Her journey will continue throughout this year with another surgery tentatively scheduled for May. In the midst of Sue’s battle with cancer, Mike’s liver failure, coupled with chronic pancreatitis, continued to get worse. On February 3rd Mike was admitted to Methodist Hospital in the Medical Center. Over the next two days he was diagnosed with complete liver failure and acute kidney failure, and his condition quickly declined. By the grace of God, early in the morning on February 6th Mike and Sue received the news that there was a donor liver that would be a match! By late that evening, Mike underwent a successful 8 hour liver transplant surgery. Mike has spent almost a month battling other health issues and recovering from his surgery in the ICU.  He will still continue to receive dialysis to support his kidney function, and has a long journey of healing ahead, but we continue to thank God for his provision up to this point. Mike was moved to a regular room on February 25th and continues to improve. Once he is stable there is a discussion among his doctors that he will continue his recovery at Kindred Hospital.  Kindred specializes in treatment and rehab for post ICU patients. This is just the beginning of a lifelong journey for the Wilkins family. We want to show our love and support by raising money that will help to cover a portion of the large medical bills that they will be faced with from here on out.
