Wilms’ Tumor is a cancer of the kidneys and is the third most common childhood cancers; it derives from specialized cells in the embryo known as metanephric blastema. These cells contribute to the development of the child’s kidneys while they’re in the womb and generally disappear at birth, but cells called nephrogenic rests can still be found in children with Wilms Tumor. Sometimes these cells begin to grow out of control, resulting in a mass of primitive, small, rapidly dividing cells called Wilms Tumor. This can affect only one kidney (unilateral) or both (bilateral). At this time, only one of Maddie's kidneys has been compromised.
Treatment includes surgery to remove the affected kidney and will be followed up by chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy to destroy any remaining cancer cells. All of which is difficult on the child and the parents. Not only is it difficult to endure, but it is extremely costly. To make things worse, four years ago the family suffered the loss of my sister and their mother/grandmother to cancer.
This young family has experienced more than their share of loss and financial struggles and could use your help. Maddie's parents are attempting to finish their college degrees to help make a better life for their family. The expenses of college and the daily cost of living for a family of 5 is putting a strain on this wonderful, loving family.
We are asking you to help them with any amount you can spare to help cover the cost of medical bills, travel expenses, and food. They have always been there for anyone in need and now they need your help in their time of need. Our entire family will be extremely grateful and will make sure we continue to give back to others in need.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts! May you be blessed in your time of need!
