Lost home to fire

Donation protected

Our daughter and her family desperately need your help.   The Santa Cruz lightening complex fires destroyed their rental home in Boulder Creek on August 19, 2020.   Ashes are all that is left of the house and belongings.   Renter's Insurance will cover replacement of minimal items, clothing and a little furniture.

Our daughter is a hard working single mother taking care of her two children, her disabled mother, and her brother (who earns minimum wage and now his hours have been severely reduced due to Covid).  Before the fire destroyed her home, the only affordable place she found was the small two bedroom house in Boulder Creek where they all lived.  Living in Boulder Creek made it possible for her to continued to pay down her student loan debt and attorneys fees accrued fighting for custody of her children.  At the same time saving what she could for a down payment on an older mobile home somewhere in the South Bay.

I raised my children while I was in the Navy and they observed how hard I worked to provide for my family be rising up the ranks to become a Chief Petty Officer (now retired after twenty years).   Now every day our daughter demonstrates a strong work ethic and the importance of becoming the best one can be.  She diligently attained a four year college degree while raising a family and working a full time job.  She will be forty this year, working hard to provide for her family and up until now has been able to take care of herself and her children.

I could not be any prouder of my child, which is the reason I am encouraging her to accept there are times it is okay to seek assistance from others.  Up against a wall, she no longer has time to acquire the necessary minimum down payment.

In order to afford the mortgage on an older mobile home and space lease in the parks in the South Bay, our daughter needs a down payment of at least 20% of the purchase price of $300,000 or less.  So far she has been able to save 3%.  A gift of any amount to help her make the down payment will be deeply appreciated.

Please know that any kindness will be deeply appreciated as well.  Perhaps you know someone who is looking for a new home for an old refrigerator still in good working order or are upgrading to a newer washer/dryer and would like to donate their previous washer/dryer, etc...  If she is able to purchase a home for her children, mother, brother and herself, replacing those big-ticket appliances will become a necessity.

We are beyond grateful that her family is safe, that she has a decent car and a good steady job.  We are happy to be able to provide shelter and food in the short term in our mobile home, but as you can imagine it has its difficulties, least of all the lack of space.

My wife is recovering from ovarian cancer (two surgeries and two rounds of chemotherapy) which significantly reduces her ability to be independent, yet she continually puts herself at risk medically with her need to help our family.  I am not currently employed so that I can be her caretaker.  Due to my wife's cancer, we both left good jobs earlier than we had planned and must meter our own finances, which stops us from being able to help our kids and grandkids rebuild their lives.

We recognize and pray for all those in need of assistance.  We pray God's promise that there will be beauty for the ashes. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for taking time to read of our family's needs and considering to help our daughter rebuild all their lives.   May God bless you.
