Sarah's Medical Expenses

Sarah Jane Miller was a healthy, happy, VERY social seven year old when she came down with the flu (type B) on Easter of 2015. Two days later, she was having trouble focusing and her dad took her to the ER where he was told that she was just tired from the flu. By Saturday, Sarah was having trouble not only focusing but also with her balance. On Sunday, a week after she was diagnosed with the flu, Sarah was taken back to the ER. This time she was taken by ambulance to Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis. She was diagnosed with ADEM (Acute Disseminated Encephalomyelitis). Sarah was treated with corticosteroids and spent a month in Acute Rehab at Riley. She was discharged on May 27, 2015. After being home for two hours, Sarah aspirated and ended up back at the ER. This time she was LifeLined by helicopter back to Riley. The doctors then ruled out the ADEM diagnosis. It is now believed that she has a mitochondrial disease. She is currently being treated for such a disease while we wait for the results of genetic testing, which should give a definite diagnosis. Sarah is getting stronger and is more awake every day. By the time she is discharged, Sarah will have spent two and a half months in the hospital. Dad Pat has been continuing to work and travel back and forth to the hospital while Sarah is being treated. Grandparents and friends have helped take care of big sister Rhiannon. Mom Bethany has been staying with Sarah in the hospital, an hour away from home. When Sarah does come home, Bethany will be her nurse around the clock. Prayers for complete healing of Sarah are appreciated, but if you are able to, please contribute what you can to help with these unplanned medical bills. Thank you.
