Michael's Medical Fund

Some of you may know my parents Margo and Raymond Marion. I am doing this on their behalf for my brother Michael Marion.  Michael was born with cerebral palsy but it has never slowed him down. He has never met a stranger. He loves everyone regardless and will certainly let you know it. Everyone who knows him knows his favorite phrase “I like your outfit”. He is a happy, kind hearted, fun-loving and strong man.  He is a great brother, uncle and son.  He is absolutely the joy in our lives. Who knew that this precious sweet boy would be in for the fight of his life?

The Discovery....

In early May 2016 Michael developed a fever that just wouldn’t go away. With him having cerebral palsy he doesn’t ever really say if something is wrong or if he is in pain. His answer is always “no, I’m fine”. My dad took him to his doctor and she noticed that his stomach felt hard so she immediately sent him to have a CT scan. The CT scan showed some kind of abscess or abnormality in his stomach so he was told to go directly to the hospital for surgery to remove the abscess. After the surgery the doctor came out to talk to my parents and that’s when they found out he had stage IV colon cancer. He was able to remove the tumor but he would have to have chemo. The doctor also told them that he saw or felt something in his liver but he was unable to get to it so he would eventually have to have a PET scan to find out if the cancer had spread.

He started on chemo in June and had a really tough time at first. The doctor ended up having to cut out one of the medicines because it caused him excruciating joint pain. He really needs that medication but it just made him too sick.  He had to wait until his incision from the surgery healed before he could have the PET scan on his liver. A few months ago he was finally able to have the PET scan and the biopsy came back positive. The cancer has spread to his liver.

Because of his cerebral palsy Michael doesn’t really know what cancer is or that he has it. He knows that he is sick and just doesn’t understand why he has to go to all these doctors and appointments. He’s not able to get out in crowds or do the things that he used to love to do.

My parents have since taken him to the Mayo clinic for the treatment of the liver cancer. They were told he has several spots and that one of them will be very difficult to remove, if it can be at all. He was put on a really strong and aggressive chemo that the doctors were hoping would shrink the larger and more difficult tumor. Unfortunately at his last appointment they were told that the chemo did not shrink the tumors at all. Michael will undergo surgery to remove the part of his liver that has the tumors near the edge. This will be the “easier” of the 2 surgeries. The second and more dangerous surgery will remove the bigger and harder to reach tumor. If all goes well the doctor is hoping for a cure as opposed to just prolonging his life for a short time.

I have started this Go Fund Me account to help ease some of my parents financial burden. Please give as much or a little as you are able.  Every dollar helps their situation. It took me a long time to convince them to allow me to ask for help on their behalf. As you can imagine this has been a huge strain on the family. That combined with other expenses and trips back and forth to the Mayo clinic are really beginning to add up. With these 2 surgeries coming up the bills are going to increase so much more from the stays in hotels while he is recovering in the hospital.  From the bottom of our hearts I humbly ask that you help me support my parents and Michael in their fight and share this link with friends and family.  I want to remove one burden from them to allow them to focus on fighting this terrible disease, Cancer, and on Michael getting better. Please pray along with our family for healing, remission, miracles and a cure!
