Alex, Sarah and little Nolan have a rough journey ahead. Alex recently re-enlisted to serve his country in the Navy. He has a faithful and sacrificial heart for service. His wife Sarah is one of the sweetest you’ll be blessed to meet. Her heart for serving others is huge as well. She has given so much of herself to others in her local church as pianist, a part of the music ministry, teaching piano and so much more. They were blessed with precious Nolan last October. His little life has already been laden with many trials. He was born with Fibular Hemimelia and has the amputation of his left foot scheduled for roughly 2 months from now. This in itself would be a large enough load for any young parents, but their burden got a lot heavier a couple of weeks ago.
Alex passed out and was rushed to the hospital. What they found has been puzzling and heart wrenching. His blood counts were fatally low on so many different levels that he has required dozens of blood transfusions. He is now in need of a bone marrow transplant, and unfortunately no match has been located. The Drs. have not yet been able to diagnose his condition but it is looking like chemotherapy is a very high possibility after the transplant. This is A LOT to have hit all at once. With all the medical uncertainty surrounding Alex, it’s a high possibility that the Navy will discharge him. This is unsettling, as this was his career of choice. That leaves a lot of financial question marks, not to mention the emotional stress of an unknown illness and a baby requiring an amputation. The timing of all this will place a huge load on sweet Sarah. She will be trying to juggle being present for treatments for Alex, a life altering surgical procedure for Nolan and then all the physical therapy that will follow. They know God is in control of it all and are trusting Him. Their testimony is tremendous!
Please consider donating to alleviate some of the stress and strain. It costs a lot to travel to all these appointments. Preparing food ahead of time isn’t always an option. Shuttling Nolan to all the wonderful care providers they’ve been blessed with and various other needs add up. Because Alex doesn’t have a diagnosis, we are unsure what will have to be paid out of pocket. If coverage is denied, the need could be astronomical.
Please keep the Barnards in your prayers.
