We are three university students raising money to go to Texas this summer to investigate the murder of Richard Wayne Jones on death row in 2000. We are making a documentary of our findings to prove his innocence and expose the systemic failings of the death penalty in the US.
Labour activist Mother Jones once said, “Pray for the dead and fight like hell for the living.” Well, now it is time to fight like hell for the dead. They have no voice, and they never had one.
Led by Defence Attorney Clive Stafford Smith OBE our project aims to investigate Richard Wayne Jones' case where strong evidence points to a flawed criminal system which may have wrongfully executed an innocent person.
The state of Texas has executed 586 possible offenders since 1976, more than a third of the national total. There are currently 180 people on Texas death row, it's time to put an end to this cruel and unusual punishment.
In Texas we are spending two months investigating the trial and subsequent murder of Richard Wayne Jones. With our research, we will produce a documentary bringing to light the truth behind Richard's untimely death and what this proves about the inherent failings of death row.
To get to Texas we need your help! We are hitchhiking the length of the UK, from John O'Groats in the North East of Scotland to Lands End in the South West of England this April to fundraise. Join our Journey for Justice by donating now.
We really appreciate all the help and support we receive, little or big,
Tess, Sasha, and Louise :)
