After a completely normal pregnancy, labor and delivery, baby Kendrick came into the world on May 20, 2015. While they were in the hospital getting acquainted with their newest addition, learning to breastfeed and adjust to their new status as "tired parents", unbeknownst to Becky and Henrique, Kendrick was already battling illness. After being released from the hospital and after their first (horrible) night home with their (inconsolable) new baby, Becky and Henrique took Kendrick to his first pediatrician appointment, only to find that he had a very high fever, sending them straight to the Emergency Room. Soon after arriving at the ER, Kendrick had his first, of many, seizures. It was the beginning of a horrible nightmare as over the course of the next 10 days, Kendrick was diagnosed with e coli meningitis, his condition rapidly getting worse, eventually needing to be transferred to Lurie Children's Hospital in Chicago, and ultimately ending with the loss of our sweet baby boy.
Through everything, Becky and Henrique have been amazing, remaining strong in their faith and leaning hard on Jesus Christ. While they strongly believe that Kendrick is now with his Heavenly Father, that unfortunately doesn't completely ease the pain of the void they are now feeling at the loss of their baby boy.
As her family (and close friends), we now worry that the following weeks and months will be extra difficult for Becky and Henrique as they are left with extra time on their hands to dwell on the pain and reality of everything that has happened.
On top of everything else, the medical bills are going to start flooding in, causing a financial burden, in addition to the extreme emotional burden they are already experiencing. While we don't know the specifics of their insurance coverage, we do know that even with insurance coverage, these things can get unbelievably expensive.
Since a lot of people have been asking what they can do to help during this time, I (Becky's sister) would like to start this page as a SURPRISE to Becky and Henrique. I would love to show them that they are loved and supported even more than they could begin to imagine. In a month or so, I'd like to present them with whatever money we can collect and give them the option to either A. Use this money for medical expenses or B. Use this money for a vacation or trip to get away from their lives for a few days. (or use the money for a combination of both)
Please know that we are MORE THAN GRATEFUL for your prayers alone and only ask if you feel as though you wish there was something more you could do to help, that you consider giving a few dollars towards some extra "lovin'" on Becky and Henrique.
Words cannot express how grateful I am for the love, prayers and support of everyone these past few weeks. It fills my heart with joy to see so many people join together to support people I love so incredibly much.
