About This Campaign
We are overwhelmed and saddened by the recent events that have unfolded for the Ordaz family. James Ordaz, a testicular cancer survivor, went to his doctor last December for what was thought to be a bad cough. Unfortunately, the diagnosis was the cancer had returned and metastasized to his lung region. An 11 cm tumor was discovered and the plan of treatment involved 35 rounds of chemotherapy. The chemo resulted in shrinking the tumor to 1.4 cm and high hopes were on the horizon. In order to eradicate the cancer, the surgeon recommended surgery to remove the right lung and a benign mass on the left chest area. On October 20, 2015, James underwent surgery to remove his lung and associated cancerous tissue. During the surgery, James went into cardiac arrest which resulted in a loss of the majority of his brain function. James has been comatose ever since and is in a critical care specialty hospital.
About James
James Ordaz, known to his friends as Jaime, is a native of Stockton. He attended Franklin High School where he participated in Cross Country and played saxophone for the Jazz Band. After graduation, he began working for the San Joaquin County Hospital as a hospital attendant. Jaime has always displayed a positive outlook on life and always has a smile on his face. This is evident by the outpouring of support provided by his coworkers. Jaime is a type 1 diabetic and is a role model and spokesperson for others who also have the disease. He would inquire about the specifics of others health and would coach them on their monitoring efforts. Even after weeks of chemotherapy, Jaime maintained his positive attitude and awesome smile. He looked forward to being cancer free and living a full life.
Jaime’s Family
Jaime is a single father of a nine year old daughter. Jaime loves spending time with his daughter, parents, brothers, cousins, aunts, uncles, grandmother and numerous friends. The family recently celebrated his 37th birthday on Labor Day. The 49er themed celebration included Jaime’s slow- cooked smoked ribs, music, and a whole lot of love. It was well known that family get-togethers are one of his favorite things as he was always the first to RSVP.
About This Fundraising
The family is grateful for the coworkers and friends who graciously donated hours so Jaime could continue to keep his medical insurance. However, based on Jaime’s current condition, it is with a heavy heart that Jaime is in need of financial assistance to help defray the out of pocket medical expenses not covered by his health insurance. Currently, there are thousands of dollars of uncovered medical expenses. Based on Jaime’s prognosis, more expenses are anticipated. Therefore, any contributions, no matter how small, are greatly appreciated. At the request of friends and coworkers who could not donate hours, this GoFundMe account has been set up. Thank you everyone for your kindness during this trying time.
