FUEL. was born out of an urge to have a space where we could transcend our own limits and boundaries through multiple forms of self-expression, creating a real movement in the city and within ourselves.
We believe that Beirut needs and deserves creative and inspiring spaces that celebrate raw and unfiltered voices, a place that reminds us we are not alone in our struggles, and that our voices matter.
This heart project was initiated by photographer Mohamad Siblini who renovated the space for almost two years with the precious help of Victoire D’Humières, after it was destroyed in the aftermath of the Beirut port explosion in August 2020. The duo was joined during the second year by Nadia Daou aka NÂR (musician), Moayad Hokan (writer) and Nader Bahsoun (photographer and illustrator) and in summer of 2023, by Karl Choueiri aka KUJO (musician and sound engineer).
We are different artists and creators sharing the same inner drive. In constant search for harmony through heterodoxy, each of us with their own approach, medium, philosophy and modus operandi, and all together contributing to keeping this space alive and helping this project improve and find its own path.

FUEL. est né du besoin de disposer d’un espace où pouvoir dépasser nos propres limites et explorer notre créativité à travers de multiples modes d’expression artistiques tout en créant un véritable mouvement au sein de notre ville et entre artistes d’horizons divers.
Nous sommes persuadés qu’il est nécessaire de conserver à Beyrouth des espaces créatifs et inspirants, d’où des voix brutes, authentiques et fortes peuvent se faire entendre, un lieu qui puisse nous rappeler que nos luttes ne sont pas veines et que notre parole porte.
FUEL. est né de la passion du photographe Mohamad Siblini, qui pendant près de deux ans, et avec l’aide précieuse de Victoire D’Humières, a patiemment rénové cet espace, ravagé par le souffle de l’explosion qui a détruit le port de Beyrouth en août 2020. Le duo a été rejoint rapidement par la musicienne Nadia Daou aka NÂR, l’écrivain Moayad Hokan et le photographe et illustrateur Nader Bahsoun, puis, en été 2023, par le musicien et ingénieur du son Karl Choueiri aka KUJO).
Nous sommes des artistes et créateurs d’horizons divers, mais nous partageons tous les mêmes valeurs, chacun avec sa propre approche, son propre continuum artistique, sa façon de faire et d’être. En constante recherche d’harmonie, nous contribuons tous à maintenir et animer cet espace, tentant de porter ce projet par nos seuls moyens.

In a time of profound changes and fundamental questions to our humanity, we seek to find new meaning in the world around us through transformation and engage in active resistance against consumerism, homogeneity of culture, numbness and stagnation, especially here in Lebanon.
FUEL’s residents have already invested more than 30,000$ on the space for the last 3 years, which included a monthly rent of 1,150$ plus charges, along with renovating and properly equipping the place.

En ces temps de profonds changements et de remise en question essentielle de toute notre humanité, nous cherchons à retrouver du sens dans l'absurdité du monde qui nous entoure à travers la mutation et la transformation de nous-mêmes et en nous engageant dans une résistance active contre le consumérisme, l’homogénéisation de la culture, la déshumanisation et la stagnation, particulièrement ici au Liban.
Les artistes résidents de FUEL ont déjà investi plus de 30,000$ dans la rénovation, le maintien et l’équipement du lieu ces 3 dernières années. Ce montant inclut un loyer mensuel de 1,150$ plus les charges.

This was a huge amount for us, one that put many of us in a delicate financial situation, in the midst of Lebanon’s economical and political collapse.
We are starting this campaign specifically because we are facing difficulties securing the necessary funds to cover this coming year’s rent.
We need your support to give FUEL. a chance to breathe, and for us to invest our time and money into the art itself, while finding the best way towards self-sustainability. We intend to achieve this by organizing more public events such as music performances, cinema projections, workshops, residencies and exhibitions, prioritizing quality over quantity as we’ve always aimed for.

Cette somme représente une lourde charge pour nous, au point que certains d’entre nous se trouvent actuellement dans une situation financière difficile, le tout dans un pays écrasé et détruit par l’effondrement de l’économie et de la politique libanaises.
Nous avons décidé d’organiser cette campagne de récolte de fonds spécifiquement dans le but d’assurer au moins le payement des loyers pour l’année à venir.
Nous avons besoin de votre aide pour donner une chance à FUEL de respirer et pour nous permettre d’investir notre temps, nos moyens et notre énergie dans la création en elle-même, d’une part et d’autre part, dans la mise en œuvre de ce qui constituerait à notre avis des solutions pérennes pour maintenir ce lieu de créativité et de liberté. Le but serait de pouvoir organiser des évènements tels que concerts, projections de films, d’accueillir des résidences artistiques ou de création, et, in fine, de développer des projets auto-portés et auto-financés, le tout dans un esprit privilégiant la qualité à la quantité, comme nous l’avons toujours fait.

Mohamad Siblini
Co- founder of FUEL, is a photographer based in Beirut. He creates assemblages with a minimalist background, where biological elements such as humans, plants and animals are in tension between animate and inanimate reality. Siblini creates surreal still life scenographies with seductively mundane objects, turning living creatures into inanimate objects, and inanimate objects into living creatures.
His exhibition ‘The Weight We Carry is Love’ took place in Fuel in October 2022 and was also the official opening of our space.

co-fondateur de FUEL. Mohamad est né le 29 Mars 1992 à Tyr, Mohamad Siblini est un photographe d’origine libanaise, basé à Beyrouth.
Un univers mystérieux se traduisant souvent par des assemblages d’éléments biologiques tels qu’un humain, une plante ou encore un animal en constante tension entre animé et nature morte. D’un humour noir indéniable, que cela soit par le billet de la photographie ou par ses installations, Siblini crée des scénographies surréalistes parvenant même à nous séduire avec des objets banals du quotidien qu’il transforme en créatures vivantes.
A l’inverse, le photographe s’octroie le droit d’ôter la vie quand cela lui convient ou quand il juge spontanément que la mort est le reflet intrinsèque du sujet qui se tient devant l'objectif, à priori vivant.
Son exposition personnelle ‘The Weight We Carry is Love’ a eu lieu à FUEL en octobre 2022 et par la même occasion, l’ouverture au public de notre espace de création.

aka NÂR is a Swiss Lebanese multi-instrumentalist and singer based in Beirut.
In constant metamorphosis, abrasive and hypnotic, N R’s lives are sonic experiments and improvisations built up from A to Z, often led by short sentences on repeat like mantras.
Lately playing with a DIY set up and instruments she created herself, composed of clocks, carillons and other metallic objects, Nadia has been rehearsing at FUEL. since 2022.
She is now working with Karl Choueiri to transform the rehearsal space into a professional music studio.
She has also initiated a series of residencies with Swiss artists at FUEL. such as Benjamin Tenko - painter and musician, Naomi Mabanda - Musician (Orchestre tout puissant Marcel Duchamps), Steve Buchanan - musician and performer and soon Augustin Rebetez - Multidisciplinary artist, aiming to interconnect artists from both countries and find new avenues for collaborations and cultural exchange.

L’helvético-libanaise Nadia Daou aka NÂR est chanteuse et multi-instrumentiste.
Les concerts lives de NÂR sont des expérimentations sonores et des improvisations complètes, en constantes mutations, abrasives et hypnotiques, souvent ponctuées de courts textes répétés en boucles comme des mantras.
Jouant désormais avec set up DIY et des instruments de sa conception comprenant des objets tels des horloges, des carillons ou d’autres objets métalliques, Nadia répète et compose à FUEL depuis 2022.
Elle collabore actuellement avec Karl Choueiri dans le but de transformer son espace en studio d’enregistrement professionnel.
Nadia a également initié à FUEL une série de résidences artistiques avec des artistes suisses tels Benjamin Tenko – peintre et musicien, Naomi Mabanda - musicienne (Orchestre tout puissant Marcel Duchamps), Steve Buchanan – musicien et performer - et, bientôt, Augustin Rebetez – artiste multidisciplinaire –. Ces résidences ont pour but de créer des liens entre artistes basés en Suisse et au Liban, pour déboucher sur de nouvelles collaborations et favoriser l’échange culturel.

known as Kujo is a multifaceted creator from Beirut.
Releasing music under this moniker since 2015 Kujo has released their debut EP Post Arab followed by their first full length album The Rebels Have No King as well as various collaborations on labels such as Injazero Records (TR/UK), Mediterranos (Palestine), Antibody Label(Belgium) and Phormix (Greece), Rhadab (Morocco). Kujo can be found as a band member covering bass, noise and electronics duties of the contemporary piece “Listening To Stones Being” directed by Reza Mirabi.
Kujo runs their own imprint based in Beirut called Modular Mind via which they have released prints, publications, vinyl, cassette amongst other creations with global artists.
Through their studio work, Kujo has mixed and mastered an extensive arsenal for labels and artists such as Ancient Methods, Phase Fatale, Zoviet France, Parrish Smith, Alessandro Adriani, Dekmantel Records (NL), Hospital Productions (US), Limbic Resonance (DE), Constant Value (SK).
Their work can also be seen as co-director of Exist Festival and Exist Records producing a number of events and records in Amman, Oslo, Beirut, Athens, Berlin, Ramallah and soon in London.
In the summer of 2023, shipped all their studio gear (aka Modular Mind Studio) from Amsterdam and will rebuild it in Beirut at FUEL, if we manage to stay of course.

Karl Choueiri, connu sous le nom de Kujo, est un créateur aux multiples facettes originaire de Beyrouth.

Moayad Hokan

Working at FUEL. since 2022, he does culture programming, organizing film screenings, discussions and a writing workshop.
Drawing on many sources from philosophy and myth to the realm of our contemporary cultural niches, Moayad is engaged in an attempt to capture our cultural moment and see possibilities for a cultural practice that is generative, transformative, and redemptive.
In the coming months, Moayad plans to hold two FUEL cinémathèque programs that address the body as the site of psychic experience; and memory as the site of fantasy. He is also currently working on a series of talks that address theater, poetry and literature.

Travaillant à FUEL. depuis 2022, il s'occupe de la programmation culturelle, organisant des projections de films, des discussions et un atelier d'écriture.
Puisant dans de nombreuses sources, aussi bien philosophiques, traditionnelles que contemporaines, Moayad tente de saisir l’instant et de créer les conditions d'une pratique culturelle générative, transformatrice et rédemptrice.
Dans les mois à venir, Moayad prévoit d'organiser deux programmes de la cinémathèque FUEL. qui aborderont le corps vu comme un site d'expérience psychique et la mémoire en tant que siège de l’imagination. Il travaille également à une série de conférences sur le théâtre, la poésie et la littérature.
