At 8 years old she was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. Her pancreas will never work and she relies on diet and timely medical services for survival. When illness strikes it is a battle for her life. Twice this year a stomach bug put her into relentless vomiting, increasing dehydration, a lack of insulin working and high ketones. Hospitalization was required when a service dog could have intervened and saved her from these emergencies.
We aim to give Alina her first year without a hospital visit and a new hope for a better quality of life. A Diabetic Alert Dog will open that door for her. This genius, this perfectionist, this musical, funloving family oriented and comedic goofball deserves that much.
