Dear Friends and Family,
Team Lucy is writing you today on behalf of the Johnson Family; Ben, Marlena, Lucy and Eleanor. As most of you already know, Lucy Johnson had a double lung transplant 10 years ago while she was just a baby. A few weeks ago she started having breathing issues and has was admitted to Children’s Hospital. After weeks of tests to find a cure for her condition, it has been determined by her elite medical staff that Lucy’s body is now rejecting the lungs that have served her for a decade. There is nothing more that can be done and she is not a candidate for a second lung transplant. Every day Lucy’s health deteriorates a bit more as she struggles to breathe. The end is near for our beloved 10 year old Lucy Johnson.
For the third time in nearly as many years, immense sorrow and grief will soon descend upon the Johnson family. Ben’s brother Matt passed away just a few years ago as did Marlena’s mother Neva. The two people Ben and Marlena need the most right now are gone and now they face the loss of their daughter Lucy.
Today, we are asking for your financial support for the Johnson family. Fortunately, they will not be burdened by medical expenses but they will suffer a painful loss of income. Because Lucy needed such constant care during her life, Marlena became a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and was able to earn money as Lucy’s caregiver instead of having to hire an outside Certified Nursing Assistant for her care. Marlena can no longer earn this money and is now faced with the prospect of needing to find another job. On top of this hardship she needs to give a lot of care to her 5 year old daughter Ellie who is diabetic and suffers from Celiac Disease. The months ahead will be painfully difficult for Ben and Marlena.
For most of us, financial issues or a loss of income can cause a tremendous amount of stress. Imagine the stress that Ben and Marlena will go through by suffering a financial loss and the loss of their child at the same time.
The Johnson’s have always generously donated their time and raised money forMarch of Dimes, The Ronald McDonald House, Make-A-Wish Foundation and teaching classes in the NICU at Children's Hospital to incoming parents needing support with g-tube care. They have raised many thousands of dollars for these charities so that they can give back to those that have helped them so much in the past. Now, they could use our help to make ends meet for a while.
If you are in a position to make a donation, please do so knowing that you’ll be contributing to a good family. The money will be used to cover some funeral expenses and to supplement the Johnson family in the coming months while they rebuild their lives without their beloved Lucy. Please know that your financial support will be greatly appreciated.
Lastly, for those of you who have faith, please pray that that Lucy does not suffer in her final days and that Ben and Marlena can somehow find strength and peace in the face of soul-crushing grief. Please pray that at the moment of her passing she is welcomed into the loving arms of her Oma Neva (grandmother) and her Uncle Matt and that she will finally be free from the ailments that have caused her so much pain during her short time here on Earth. Lucy’s life has touched so many of us that know her and her family. Your prayers, thoughts, and monetary support are so appreciated.
Thank you for your support.
