My Dads Altruistic Gift to Humanity

Donation protected

My dad, Steve, has been a huge inspiration for myself and a lot of people around the community. He has a huge drive to see things through whether it is HIS passion, or someone else's.
He is the kind of man to always go out of his way to help anyone in the community to get things done.

One of his current goals is to inspire the community to get involved by sharing their art and ideas, in a hope to create a community driven building based around collaboration, learning, sharing, vision, and empowering individuals through community.

Steve is very passionate about the environment and doing his part in our world, refusing to use anything new unless it's not an option. He has been collecting and storing a vast amount of second-hand building supplies in our family home my whole life, making the backyard somewhat of a junkyard.. all in preparation for this ambitious project. Being a kid, my 2 brothers and I were always embarrassed to have any friends over, but now I understand it's purpose and could not be more proud.

Dad has been conceptualizing the intention of the finished project for over 10 years. Finally having the legalities passed to start 3 years ago he began putting all of his energy into getting it moving forward.

Steve is a character so driven to see this through that in morning he wakes up, has his morning toast and coffee, and heads straight to the building site to continue his mission.

The full array of intentions of the finished building are still being fully realized, (building it as a house) Steve wants it to be a community project, drawing ideas from individuals from all walks of life!  Current ideas include having workshops and teaching, art spaces, free legal advice? Small music venue. A pay-as-you feel café? ALL THE IDEAS!!!! He wants it to be a space where people can be involved at little to no cost, but put in and take out as they need.

With community growth and development in mind, he wants it to be a space of connection and collaboration, where everyone learns from each other on how to be a part of a community.

Dad is often working all day... most days, until the sun hides away (though he does do part time time maintenance at the local high school as his only income). He works mostly alone (with specialty workers when needed), he will be there in any spare time he has just himself and his radio.

Throughout the process there are many tedious jobs that take him days to finish, jobs that almost anyone can do, but besides needing to pay a friend Rob for professional building tasks, Steve's funds are too low for him to employ anyone for help. Occasionally local kids from the community volunteer to give a helping hand, and Steve teaches them as they work.

The intention I have for raising this money is to employ someone part time to clean up and do the tedious jobs, offloading these from Steve so that he can focus on the bigger things; and also to give someone the opportunity to learn from his mysterious ways of how to creatively restore and build using recycled materials.

People around Steve see him as a passionate, driven and proud man working himself to the bone, and want to help as much as they can, but the reality is that they can only help to the extent that their free time allows.

Any money raised would mean so much to the people in the community watching Steve work, and would mean so much to me, knowing that he has company and support on the building site. Dad needs help to see this through without feeling guilty about taking other people's time without paying them for their efforts.

Any amount of donation will make all the difference and I would truly be thankful to see my dad get through this with the help that he deserves.
