As many of you know, my bil, your friend, brother or cousin, Corey Beamon was diagnosed with leukemia (cancer) last year. Since finding out, he's endured medicinal treatments only to be told just recently, they're not working. He only has 15% of his bone marrow left! At this point, a bone marrow transplant is necessary. Without health insurance and Medicaid, all expenses for medicine and treatments thus far have been out of pocket. Medicaid denied Corey's application for coverage when he was first diagnosed, just recently denied an appeal and was told a second appeal could take up to a year. This family is on emergency stand by with very little resources. The doctors are working double time with Medicaid to get Corey coverage. This must happen in order to have any potential donors tested for the stem cell procedure (bone marrow transplant). Immediately after Corey's appeal for Medicaid is approved, they have to be ready to relocate from Killeen to Dallas in a moments notice. The approval should come any day now and testing will initiate within 48 hours. That is how fast they must move to see him survive this. Dana, his wife and the financial supporter for this family will take leave from her job to be by Corey's side. While in Dallas, they will have tons of emotional support but will need real financial support. God willing, a match is found, recovery from this transplant could take weeks, months. During this time, this family will require temporary housing and living expenses in Dallas. Any donation made towards Corey's cause will go towards just that.
