This GoFundMe campaign is for my uncle Ken Hertel who last week was rushed to the hospital and later diagnosed with an advanced form of a rare leukemia. Ken is a beloved husband, father of four and, most recently, a grandfather. Doctors have told the Hertel family that Ken’s leukemia is very advanced but treatable. Unfortunately outpatient treatment is not an option and Ken will have to be hospitalized indefinitely at Johns Hopkins to undergo intense chemotherapy. Compounding the problem is Ken’s weakened immune system which is currently battling a bad bought of pneumonia. He has been in and out of critical condition.

As you can imagine extended treatment at Johns Hopkins will bring forth an exorbitant amount of medical bills. I am asking for those willing to donate whatever they can to help his family sustain this emotional and financial blow as Ken continues his fight to recover. While the Hertel family is consumed with doctor’s reports and hospital bills it would be nice for them to not have to worry about grocery trips and electricity bills. Kathleen, Caroline, Marianna, Matthew, Cagdas, baby Kaan and his loving wife Michelle would greatly appreciate anything that you can spare.
