Jack Heckman has stage IV Colon Cancer. He is 49 years young, and was given the diagnosis four years ago. Jack has fought a long battle for these years. He has undergone numerous treatments, radiations and clinical trials. This passed spring he was told that the chemotherapy options had been exhausted, and that he should consider a clinical trial. For months he went through numerous trials, nothing really helping. His cancer has currently spread to his liver and other areas. This week, he will undergo colon surgery to remove scar tissue, which has created a blockage. Jack has been in intense pain for months, and hasn't received chemotherapy since early October. He has been put on high doses of Morphine and other drugs, to try and manage the pain, but mainly ends up tolerating it.
For those of you who know Jack personally, you can attest to the fact that he is a fighter. He never talks negatively about his disease and places blame on no one. He fights the fight, every day, hour by hour. He continued to go to work his job on "good days", and went in on weekends to make up hours he missed because of his illness. Last week, Jack was "laid off". His insurance will end in six days. As one of his closest friends, I'm asking everyone to pitch in, to help our friend. He would never ask himself, we all know this. We can't help his Cancer, but we can try to ease his stress a bit. Anything will help.
