Monica Hartwig and my brother Bill, have been together for 16 years. They have two wonderful sons. Bronson who is 15 years old and Cole who is 13 years old. They are a very close and loving family.
On Friday January 29, 2016 they were hit with devastating news. Monica was not feeling like her active self and was turning jaundice. They decided that she would see a Doctor. Monica had a CT scan to determine the cause of her jaundice. Her results came back and the news was not what they were expecting. Monica was diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer. The cancer spread to her liver, lymph nodes, and one kidney. She is only 46 years old. Monica never experience pain or anything abnormal. The Doctors told her that she had the cancer for around seven years. The hidden beast inside of her. The cancer is treatable. However, it is not curable.
Monica has had a very rough 2 months. Monica was in/out of the hospital for pancreatitis, and an infection. Monica has gone through radiation in hopes to shrink her tumor that is eating away at her liver. However, the radiation did not work. Monica is now on a very low dose of chemo. We are praying that this will show some much needed results.
Through out this whole ordeal Monica has been a fighter and will continue to fight. She has shown incredible perseverance and remarkable strength. Monica is the type of person who lets nothing get her down. She is always thinking of others and she is one of the most gracious, humbling people I know. Monica is a loving mother who does everything for her two boys. They mean the world to her and she has raised them to be respectful young men. Not only is she a wonderful mother, she is a wonderful wife to my brother. The bond that they share is very strong. They do EVERYTHING together and I have never seen my brother so happy as I have seen him for the past 16 years. They are a living example of "true love". Monica's laugh and smile are contagious. Monica can brighten any dark day with one of her stories about her animals.
This money will be used for their family in many different ways. Monica has stopped working because, of her condition. This has put an extra burden on their family. All of her appointments are in La Crosse. They live in Sparta. This will be beneficial for them since they use a lot of money towards gas. Monica does not have life insurance and she does not want to put any financial burden on her family. Monica wants to do things with her boys before God calls her home. This money would provide them with that need. This money would be also be used for medical expenses. Not only do they need financial relief, they need prayers also.
Monica needs the funds as soon as possible. Monica is terminal and they do not know how long she will be with us. We are still praying for a miracle. However, we know that it is all in God's plan. We have to praise God for everyday we have with Monica.
