Steven Chambers' Medical Fund

A few weeks ago, our family's world was turned upside down as the result of a mysterious medical issue. My husband, Steven, is a hardworking, dedicated family man. We have 3 beautiful children: Anna, Mason and Kaden. Steven enjoys bike riding, working out, family outings to the park, the beach and practicing Jui-jitsu. He is an active member in our community and owns his own business, AnyRepair LLC, which donates a portion of each completed job to a local charity.  He's dependable and always willing to lend a hand or tell a bad joke.

On May 14 of this year, Steven began complaining of pain in his lower back. Being as active as he is, we just assumed he had pulled a muscle...no big deal. By May 17, I had to take him to an Urgent Care as he could barely walk, had a fever, and was in excrutiating pain.  They treated him for a back sprain and bronchitis. He tried to talk himself into feeling better. Visited the chiropractor twice. By May 23rd, he was feeling worse and went to the ER at Cartersville Medical Center. He was dismissed as having sciatica, given a handful of pills and sent home again. By May 25, we were back at the ER, this time begging for answers. After a routine blood test showed that his body was fighting a serious infection, he was admitted into the hospital.  After many tests, 4 surgeries and 2 procedures, we received a diagnosis....a life threatening Staph infection which had caused him to go septic. The Staph infection also accumulated in his joints causing a very painful condition called Septic Arthritis.  None of his Doctors know how he acquired this type of infection, as he had not had any recent surgeries or any wounds of any type.  After nearly 2 weeks in the hospital, Steven was released late last week. He was released with a PICC line in his arm and we have to drive down to Cartersville Medical Central EVERYDAY for the next 8 weeks for antiobiotic infusions. He's happy to be home, but still very uncomfortable.

There are not many things as difficult as having to ask for help, but this is where we are at.  Just a month ago, we were enjoying a relatively easy middle class life. Now, we find ourselves in financial straights. As Steven had just recently started his own business, he had no medical insurance.  The bills are already in the $10's of thousands and keep coming in.  He is not able to work at this time as he still needs assistance with walking, has not yet been cleared to drive, not to mention the daily infusions and strict instructions with the PICC (no heavy lifting, exerting, etc)  We have exhausted every penny of savings (his discharge meds alone were over $800!), but the bills keep coming.  Now, I worry about paying the bills, keeping the lights on, staying in our home, feeding the kids, gas money to get to and from Cartersville daily. We still have over 7 more weeks of infusion!! Everyday, we are getting further into this financial hole with no prospects of any money coming in for at least the next month and a half or so.  So, as hard as it is to ask, we need help from our family, friends and community to pull this off. Prayers are always welcomed! I've often been on the giving end of things like this; I never imagined that I'd be the one asking for help one day. It's really hard. God works in mysterious ways. I'm just trying to find a way to weather this storm. I have a strong faith in God and know that this too shall pass...that everything happens for a reason. We were certainly pay it forward when we are able.

Thank you all for taking the time out of your day to read this. God Bless!!
