Our sister, mother, daughter and aunt, Laura Hicks Cruse, was recently diagnosed with advanced breast cancer. She has three different cancers: Ductal Carcinoma in situ, Invasive Ductal Carcinoma and Metastatic Carcinoma.
She recently had a bilateral Mastectomy. She will have eight treatments of Chemotherapy over 16 weeks followed by twenty-five radiation treatments over 5 weeks.
She has some time built up at her job with the Parsons State Hospital & Training Center which she can fall back on, but she will run out of time before all the treatments are completed. She is employed with a second part-time job, but at this time she is not able to work those hours due to the physical requirements of the position.
She has had her first round of Chemotherapy and it has left her with tremendous bone pain and overall fatigue. She is currently trying to work her position at Parsons State Hospital and has pushed her way through one week. However, the side effects of the Chemo will worsen with time and they will hinder her ability to work.
We are trying to raise funds for her to help offset the costs associated with her treatments. Some of the cost includes loss of income and ability to keep up to date on her monthly utility and food expenses, travel expenses to and from Wichita, and various co-payments for doctor visits, among other expenses.
Laura is asking for your prayers and positive thoughts. As well, we are humbly asking for any donations, large or small, to help her through this trying time. All donations would go directly to Laura.
