Kidney Transplant Assistance

Donation protected
Hey everyone!

It is crazy to think we are FINALLY at the finish line. The kidney transplant will be on April 22 at Integris Hospital in Oklahoma City.

Because of my cousin, Cynthia, I can look forward to a long, healthy life. I am excited to step into the next chapter with my wife, which consists of traveling the world and starting a family!

About the donor (approved by her) :

Cynthia is a humble wife and mother of 3 from Colorado Springs, Colorado. She is a full-time student working hard to get her bachelor's degree in Audio Engineering. With a history of fostering animals, volunteering to tutor children with reading disabilities, donating plasma, and helping those who she can, she has spent her life giving back to her community.

Since she was a little kid, she always wanted to find a way to "fix" my T1 Diabetes. This was a full-circle moment for her when she found out that she couldn't necessarily "fix" my diabetes, but she could give me a long and healthy life through kidney donation!

Cynthia’s supportive husband, Scott, is a Journeyman electrician and the sole provider for their single-income household as she focuses on school and caring for their 3 children.

--did I mention we all got married on the same day? Gotta love the irony.

The process:

Cynthia will fly into OKC on April 7th to do her last round of bloodwork before surgery. Her and her husband, Scott will then fly into OKC together on April 21 and the surgery will happen the following day.

She is expected to be in the hospital for 3 days, and I will be in the hospital for approximately 5 days (give or take). Once I am released, I will be on a very high amount of immune suppressants. Therefore, I will have to quarantine at home (in Tulsa) and travel carefully to my follow-up appointments in OKC.

Her and Scott will have to stay in OKC until May 8th, due to her final follow-up appointment to ensure she is strong and healthy before traveling home to Colorado. This is a total of 18 days.

The Ask:

Daisha and I want to cover as much of their costs as possible to eliminate any extra stress or worry. Cynthia is already doing so much by donating her time and kidney, so we hope to make this as easy as possible for her and her family.

We want to cover their lodging, food, child care (3 kids), flights, and time for unpaid work leave. Since these costs are falling on top of the hefty medical expenses we will be responsible for, we figured this would be an excellent place for our community to step in and help!

Cost Breakdown:

Round Trip Flights x3 : Approximately $1,600
Air B&B 18 days: Approximately $4,000
Food cost ($111 per day for 3 meals x2): Approximately $2,000
Child care (3 kids): Approximately $3,000
Unpaid Work time: Approximately $2,600

Estimated total: $13,200

Any excess funds will go towards medical expenses and any unexpected logistic costs.

We are so close to the end, and we could not have even gotten this far without the support of our friends and family. Thank you all for your continued support and for loving us so well throughout this journey!!
