Bailey is a rescue dog who first came to me as a foster two years ago when she was pregnant and started having babies just an hour after coming into my home. She came from a neglectful home where she lived outside all of the time and was very malnourished. She still managed to give birth to a very large litter of 12 healthy puppies who were all adopted. My family loved Bailey so much we decided we wanted to keep her in our home where she had grown very comfortable and was very loved. Now, two years later, she has been thrown into another hard life situation in facing a sudden medical emergency that almost killed her. Late night March 30th we rushed her to the animal hospital in Cornell where she was diagnosed with gastric dilatation volvulus (GDV), or bloat, which in simple terms means her stomach suddenly flipped inside of her. The veterinarian was able to do surgery to resolve the issue with only minimal removal of the spleen of all the affected organs and attach the stomach to the abdominal wall to prevent it from reoccurring, but she is still being monitored in hospital for more complications. That being said, all of the treatment along with the surgery for this condition is a very heavy cost and nightmare situation for any pet owner to handle and not easily prepared for. I am not the type of person to ask for help and do it very rarely, but we have done everything we can since adopting her to give her a better life from where she came from, and I believe she is very deserving of that same thing still in this situation. She’s one of the sweetest dogs you will ever meet and wouldn’t ever hurt anyone despite what the beginning of her life was like. She deserves the best life she can get and I don’t think that should have to end simply because of the insane cost of emergency vet care to save these animals that very much become beloved family members. Her kids and I are very much missing her and are hoping we can bring her back home very soon.
