Daniel's cancer fight

A big surprise to us all, Daniel was diagnosed with a rare cancer in July 2018. He started having back pain in early 2018. When it finally got too much, I took him to the ER where they quickly found a tumor on his tailbone. After a biopsy we were told news that we never expected to hear, Daniel has a rare cancer called Chordoma. We were lucky to find a Chordoma specialist in Los Angeles, but he is out of network for the insurance. To say they put up a fight against sending him to the specialist is an understatement! They sent him to doctors in downtown and Pasadena, but not to the specialist. In fact, representatives from the insurance company cold called him to tel him that they were not going to send him to the specialist! The amount of stress this diagnosis has caused our family is off the charts! Finally, after multiple other doctors recommended that he be seen by the specialist, the insurance company approved our request!
The silver lining of the situation is that this type of cancer is slow growing, and supposed to be localized. And while we are hopeful that these are true, it's still cancer. Because his cancer is slow growing it is now the middle of October and he still hasn't had the surgery to remove the tumor. It is finally scheduled to happen soon, but with all this time from diagnosis until now has given the tumor time to grow larger, and cause more pain/discomfort. Sitting has proven to be the most painful. Because of the pain, discomfort, and the confusion from all the medications, he hasn't been able to work much since the diagnosis in July. He is expected to be unable to work for an additional 4-6 months due to healing and recovery. The surgery is expect to take 6-8 hours and part of his tailbone will be removed with the tumor. And while we have tightened our budget and extra spending, it still costs money to sustain a family. Any donations will help keep our family in food, rent, and clothing. We could also use gift cards, babysitting help, and rides to appointments in the future after surgery.
We volunteer and donate to causes that help those in need when we are able, so we understand the importance of helping and what donations can do for others. We would be very grateful for any and all donations received now that we are in need! Thank you!
