Lewis’ Recovery

Donation protected
Last night Lewis was experiencing symptoms of a urinary blockage again, except this time he has had a full urinary blockage. He is currently in the emergency vet hospital, after X-rays and multiple flushes on the catheter he has a rough case of urinary crystals/stones, although they were able to flush the crystals out it has been advise to me by my vet that an overnight stay as close to minimum 36 hours to monitor that all the crystals have gone is the safest route.

This is Lewis last chance on the fight of his life. Due to financial circumstances we almost had to make the decision to put him down this morning. Thankfully my grandparents, my mother and the McVitie foundation graciously came to my aide. Unfortunately this treatment plan was already way outside of my budget and the ongoing care he needs will total up to $3500 dollars which is an absurd amount of money to me at the moment. I do not meet the financial requirements in place for another society to donate as like many others at this time on paper I make too much money but my income to debt ration is not at all as it looks. I do not bring in enough money to cover my expenses and my bills.

I am pleading with anyone to donate AGAIN, under new circumstances as if I take him home prematurely due to my own hardship if he gets reblocked again Lewis will not be coming home and we will not be able to save him. He will need to be put down, not because he is unhealthy or dying but because I financially cannot save my cat. Multiple tests today showed that Lewis is in good health other than this, his kidneys are functioning well, he is healthy and still has many of years left. He just has crystals which I don’t believe is enough to take away his life. I’ve sold my Pokémon cards, I’ve tried to take out cash advances and I have exhausted all other available money.

I understand Lewis is a senior cat and this may seem ridiculous but he has a fantastic quality of life, he plays like a kitten, jumps from (way too high) of surfaces and countertops, he is a menace to my roommates dog, he plays and he roars around the house. He is happy and he is very loved. I do not want to have to make this choice. If you are able to even donate $5 dollars, anything adds up and I hope to keep him in overnight at LEAST.

update August 25
Lewis has been at home recovering. We’ve had a few hiccups. One frantic trip back to the hospital. And many of sleepless nights for me. He needs 24 hour monitoring basically until he is able to have full output instead of small frequent amounts accompanied by straining. He is still very uncomfortable. Still very swollen and unhappy. Today is a bad day. He won’t come out of hiding and I’m anxious we will have to go back into hospital for a check up to make sure he is still doing okay. I will continue to have to be off work until he has been cleared to safely be on his own for long periods of time.

thank you to everyone who has been so supportive, generous and sympathetic to our situation. I’m forever blessed for the kindness I’ve been shown and I’m beyond grateful for the time I get to spend with him regardless of how long that might be. I’m hopeful for his recovery ❤️‍ I’m not exactly at the point where I can breath freely yet but day by day I am hopeful.
