Chunk’s Surgery

Donation protected

I started noticing stray and feral cats on my property about two years ago. It was the fall of 2018 and as we were heading into winter, I started putting food out. As time went on, I started learning about TNR (trap, neuter, release) groups and tried to get some of these cats altered. Despite years of feeding, I have never been able to touch any of these cats, as they are truly feral.

Just over a year ago, a cat came to my back door and this cat was very different from the rest. This cat was vocal, interactive and I could touch this cat from the very first day.  This cat had personality in spades. This cat would chirp at me if I didn’t put down the food fast enough and I started calling the cat, Chunk. But like most of the colony cats, I would go long stretches without seeing Chunk.

About a month ago, Chunk reappeared after nearly 6 months of not being around. This time coming to my front door. I started sitting outside while Chunk ate and generally becoming very attached. I’d post pictures of Chunk on social media and was encouraged to take Chunk in.

Knowing that a big storm was coming through this past week, I decided to bring Chunk into my house and secure a vet appointment. I kept Chunk separate from my own cat, Tristan, to ensure if any viruses, illnesses or contagions wouldn’t be spread. Different food dishes, water bowls, litter boxes and bed and toys.

Chunk made it through the vet appointment well. I found out she was a girl, approximately 4-5 years old and that she is FIV positive.  She will require extensive oral surgery, due to missing teeth, broken teeth and at least one exposed nerve. Due to her having FIV, she has a weakened immune system and is generally  more prone to infections

While I want to do everything I can to ensure that she never has to  go back out on the streets and has a good life, taking in another animal was not planned. The medical expenses associated with the surgery she will need also were not planned.  Any help that you can provide will be greatly appreciated and go a long way toward ensuring that Chunk gets the care that she needs.

Thank you,
Diana
