Help me do acupuncture in Bhutan
Donation protected
This January, my teacher Dr Lin forwarded an email to me from Yeshey, a local community leader in Bhutan, below is an excerpt:
"I really do not have an idea how many persons suffer from migraines .... However I know that there are a large number. I have seen friends and family suffer and the suffering is just too great. I am fortunate not to suffer from this disease but see that the pain is so very excruciating. I have seen people go into isolation in dark rooms and suffer.
I do not know what the treatments are for the disease but when I met Mr. Dilip Raval, Vijay’s elder brother, he told me that he was cured of the disease by acupuncture treatment. I was very encouraged – because I was under the impression that migraines was incurable.
As of now we do not have the funding to field a competent acupuncturist to treat patients here in Bhutan. My initiative is borne of my compassion for the people suffering from this painful disease"
Dr Lin asked me if I would be willing to answer this call for help, to leave my practice in Boston and go to Bhutan for a short period to help these suffering people, there would be no pay, and I would have to fund my own expenses.
I thought, what an honor! And how beautiful fate works to help me do the things I love. I have always wanted to travel to remote areas needing medical help and volunteer my skills, and here is one such opportunity, fallen right into my lap, with a compassionate native, Yeshey, to help me navigate the local environment.
I spoke with my husband, and we decided immediately that I should go to Bhutan and help these people.
As explained by Yeshey, I will need to set up a whole clinic from scratch, meaning I must bring all necessary treatment supplies from Boston to Bhutan. At this moment, I am still not sure how many people I will need to treat daily, according to Yeshey, a “large number” are suffering. The clinic will not be like my office in Lexington, I will see multiple patients in one room like hospitals in China. I will need to bring acupuncture needles, Moxa, electric machines, and possible heat lamps (if I can) to treat the patients, this will cost $3000-$5000. As I am paying for my flights and Yeshey will assist with lodging in Bhutan, every penny from you will go straight towards supplying necessary equipment and tools.
As I told Yeshey, I am not alone, he is not alone, I will go to Bhutan bearing all the love and generosity from you guys!
