Paradise Camp Fire Victim

I am Marian Scott Chrispens  from Yucaipa, CA.  The above photo is of the Paradise SDA Church where my brother and I worshiped growing up.  The rest of this beautiful town of Paradise looks very similar as 95% of the town was destroyed as a result of the Camp Fire that ravaged the community on November 8. 2018. My brother, Robert Scott,  has lived in Paradise all his life where he had a business in mobile home services for many years until he was forced to take a disability retirement at 50 years of age due to Spastic Hyperplasia and difficulty with mobility that prevented him from being able to do the work he had done for so long.  His son, Steve, has been living with him in recent years.  On November 8 they, along with thousands of other residents of Paradise, were surprised by a fast-moving wildfire and were barely able to escape by driving their car down a bike path to the lower end of town with fire burning on both sides.  They made it to Chico and were sheltered at a friends home for a couple of days, then to a hotel in Redding and finally to an upstairs space in a generous family home in Chico that just wanted to help.  They had no insurance on the trailer, truck or their possession so they are faced with rebuilding their life with no insurance funds to help.  They have been given basic clothes and food from the shelter  and are safe and comfortable for now even though in very temporary quarters.  My nephew's  truck was lost to the flames as well and he now does not have a job as the homes where he was working as a handyman no longer exist.  He has been able to pick up a few odd jobs but without transportation, it is difficult.  It is hoped that Robert and Steve will be able to move to a duplex in a few months and will then have need for rent , food, furniture, and household items that were all lost in the fire.  This sum of money will help them have a chance to obtain transportation and make plans to start over to make a home in Chico.
