Help Rebuild Westmoreland, Jamaica After Hurricane Melissa
Hi, my name is Akiem Lawson, and I’m raising funds from Kansas to help families in Westmoreland, Jamaica recover after the devastating impact of Hurricane Melissa.
I was born and raised in Jamaica. My heart and my roots are still there. Many of my close family members, childhood friends, and former neighbors still live in Savanna-la-Mar and Grange Hill, some of the hardest-hit areas. Today, they’re facing unimaginable loss: homes destroyed, clean water cut off, and no access to basic supplies.

Why This Fundraiser Matters
Hurricane Melissa hit Jamaica as a Category 5 storm, destroying homes, flooding roads, and wiping out power across the island. But for many families in Westmoreland, the crisis is just beginning.
This fundraiser isn’t about short-term handouts—it’s about long-term rebuilding. Families don’t just need a meal or a blanket. They need sturdy homes, clean drinking water, and the ability to rebuild their lives with dignity.

How Your Donation Will Be Used
100% of your donation will go directly toward:
• Purchasing building materials like zinc roofing, concrete blocks, cement, and lumber
• Shipping these materials to local community leaders and trusted partners in Savanna-la-Mar and Grange Hill
• Providing emergency cash relief to 15+ verified families for food, baby supplies, medication, and water
• Supporting reconstruction of schools and community spaces damaged in the storm
I will personally manage and track every donation and provide frequent updates, photos, and proof of how your generosity is being put to use.

Why I’m Doing This
Jamaica is more than just a vacation destination; it’s home. And right now, families are sleeping under tarps, struggling to feed their children, and have no idea when help will come.
This is my way of giving back. I may live in Kansas now, but my people in Jamaica need help, and I’m stepping up to make sure they get it.
