Let's Support Riley!

Who is Riley?

Riley Weakland, daughter of Tyler & Meg Weakland, turned four only two weeks ago. She is a loving & caring person with a ton of energy and enthusiasm for life. She also loves animals; She spends her free time cuddling with her two dogs, two cats, and two bunny rabbits when she's not busy defending her home from invaders!

What happened?

On Friday, 4/22/22, Riley was playing in the neighbor's yard with the other kids. The neighbors were feeding their Akita dog, and although they were not close to the dog, the dog snapped and aggressively rushed toward the group of kids. Riley was the closest to the dog, so it grabbed her first and mauled her.

Riley was rushed to the hospital, where they did not have the capabilities to handle the severity of her injuries. She was transferred to Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown PA, where a plastic surgeon was on call. They rushed her to surgery to handle the wounds. It took an unknown amount of sutures to close everything up, but the lacerations were initially wide enough to fit the width of a finger in them.

How is Riley now?

Riley has a crushed orbital socket, a punctured skull along with several skull fractures, and a tooth that has been pushed up into the gums. She will undergo surgery to remove the tooth once her swelling has subsided.

The Weakland family is trying their best to stay positive. Riley, fortunately, didn't lose an eye, suffer brain damage, or sustain injuries that can't be treated. She was even able to preserve her love for animals!

On her second day in the hospital, she said, "I want to see Suki and Bentley (her two dogs)"

Tyler responded, "You're not afraid of dogs?"

And Riley said, with a big smile, "No, I love doggies!"

How will this fundraiser help?

The funds raised will be allocated toward Riley's initial ambulance transport, 4-day hospital stay, and emergency surgical procedures. The funds will then be used for future plastic surgery to fix scar tissue, oral surgery to remove the tooth pushed up into Riley's gum, neurological consults, dental consults, and the medications she needs for aftercare.

Thank you in advance for showing the same kindness, generosity, and compassion that we all know Riley would offer to all the people (and animals) in her own life. We are all looking forward to Riley's speedy recovery!
