Derek Bennett died on 20th July 2025 after a very short illness; he was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer (SCLC) a highly aggressive form of lung cancer characterised by its rapid growth and early spread to other parts of the body.

You will know that Derek lost his daughter Samantha, to a Glioblastoma Brain Tumour in late 2022 and it was his wish that any donations made at his funeral were donated to the Brain Tumour Research Charity. We have set up this gofundme page in both Derek's memory and his wish also to remember his daughter, Samantha by providing much needed funds to the Brain Tumour Research charity.

This October, I’ll be running the Cardiff Half Marathon in memory of two very important people in my life, my wonderful Grampy, who we sadly lost suddenly this summer, and my amazing Mum, who passed away in December 2022.

Grampy, despite his own battle with lung cancer, was determined to raise money for Brain Tumour Research in Mum’s memory – it was something he spoke about right up until his funeral. His strength, selflessness and love for Mum have inspired me to take on this challenge for them both.

Every step I take will be for them. For Mum, who we miss more than words can say, and for Grampy, who showed me what it means to keep going no matter what. If you’re able to support, any donation big or small would mean the world and help fund vital research.

Thank you so much for reading and for supporting this cause so close to my heart.
