A cause I care about needs help

Spring Woods United Methodist Church began providing safe, faith-based childcare services to the Houston, Texas community 40 years ago. The program has evolved to the Spring Woods Christian Academy, which provides care to infants through kindergarten and employs five teachers and the director. With the onset of the COVID pandemic, enrollment levels have dropped by approximately one-third and the church and school have accumulated a deficit of approximately $36,000. The school is set to close its doors at the conclusion of the fall semester, leaving some of the most loving, devoted, and Christ-centered people I've ever met without jobs; families scrambling to find care; and a couple dozen children to deal with transitions to new schools.

On a more personal level, these are what I think you might care about in considering making a donation to our school (and I must say, I appreciate your time in just reading this request):

Ms. Pampell, my four-year-old's teacher, will be one of the people whom we look back on and think of as included in the handful of the most important people in my son Cade's life. He's the stinker on the right. Despite much effort on my part and several other educators' parts, he's never taken to learning or schooling, but under Ms. Pampell's care, he's become enamored with learning. Ms. Pampell is a kind soul, the kind of woman who daily wears the visible loss of breast cancer without shame. You can't help but want to hug her every morning. Cade takes her drawings of hearts with expressions of love almost daily. As a single mother, knowing my son is dearly cherished at school means so much to me.

Because I don't indulge much in news or social media, I'm not sure how much the world is thinking about and discussing the effects of COVID changes and uncertainties on children. But, the world has been very difficult on God's littlest people lately. As resilient as children are, it breaks my heart to keep saying to my children what they can't do or how things must change because of COVID and to know the challenges imposed on their little minds and hearts.

I suppose the overarching cause I'd ask you to consider is that of the most special educators in the world--I hope you've encountered a few in your lifetime. The other would be children affected by the COVID pandemic. In donating, I can assure you you'd be giving to a group of teachers, families, and children who would be overwhelmed with gratitude. Thank you so much for considering supporting our school and its families.
