The story I am about to tell you is about Bruno and Assunta’s endeavour to have a beautiful, healthy child; something that every parent wishes for and is entitled to.
On 11 October 2011, Bruno and Assunta gave birth to a healthy baby daughter naming her Chloe. Chloe is their only child. For the past four years Chloe has brought her parents and those around her no end of joy with a vibrant personality and a thoughtful caring nature that they hope to see develop into a beautiful young lady.
In early June 2016 Chloe showed symptoms of cognitive deterioration and was taken to the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne. On 18 July 2016, after a series of tests, Chloe was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour. The only treatment option in Australia was radiation therapy, which would only prolong her life by a matter of months. The position of the tumour did not allow surgical intervention in Australia.
To say this has rocked Bruno and Assunta’s world is a gross understatement. Their journey so far has not been without life’s challenges. Assunta has a rare genetic disorder and around five years ago Assunta suffered a series of tumours behind her eyes and has been declared legally blind. Assunta has been on a disability pension ever since.
Wanting to commence a family, Bruno and Assunta sought to eliminate the risk of their child inheriting the same genetic disorder; so Chloe was conceived using the IVF process.
Unfortunately for reasons that bewilder us all, Chloe has acquired her current condition, for which not genetics, but rather fateful luck has played a hand in. This diagnosis has blown them away having actually chosen to go through IVF to provide them with best possible chance of having a healthy child. Like any parent they will not give up without a battle for their child’s ultimate survival.
After a world-wide search for treatment options, this brave family have travelled to a clinic in Houston, Texas, known as the Burzynski Clinic. This is the family’s only hope at a viable treatment worldwide. The treatment is Aprox $65,000 per month. This does not include airfare, accommodation or other aligned living or medical expenses encountered. This is causing significant personal and financial hardship for Bruno and Assunta.
Bruno has dedicated his life to protecting others, firstly as a Protective Services Officer and more recently as a police officer and now finds himself in a helpless situation requiring the support and assistance of those around him.
There is nothing quite like having your child’s life threatened to make you treasure every precious moment. You can help support this family over the next few months whilst they bravely search for a cure to save Chloe’s life.
The amount we are looking to raise will cover 3 to 4 months of treatment for
Chloe.
