Shalin Burns Medical Fund/Funeral
Donation protected
Shalin is a 15-year-old boy who was about to take his 9th grade final exams at Lanphier High School.
On Saturday, May 23, 2015, he developed a fever, dizziness and pain behind eyes which continued for several days. His mom gave him Tylenol on Thursday morning, May 28 at 2:30a.m. At that time, Shalin was talking normally with his mom, Chris.
In the morning, his mom found Shalin on the floor and was unable to awaken him. As he was carried out the door to the vehicle, he started having a seizure. Shalin had never before experienced seizures. To date, he has not regained consciousness.
Shalin was admitted to St. John's Children's Hospital ICU in Springfield, Illinois and has continued to have seizures. He was transported to St. Louis Children's Hospital Saturday, May 30 with an ICU doctor and 2 nurses in the Critical Care Transport Unit.
Shalin is receiving excellent care in St. Louis. The doctors believe that he has an autoimmune disorder and have sent lab tests to Mayo Clinic. There is no affirmative diagnosis as of yet.
Shalin is still in critical condition. He is on a ventilator, undergoing kidney dialysis, being monitored by an EEG, his temperature is being regulated by an Artic Sun machine, and is undergoing blood ferisis dialysis along with numerous IV medications for seizures and blood pressure.
Chris is a single mother of both Shalin and a 12-year-old daughter. She will be taking a Family Medical Leave from her employer to stay with Shalin in the hospital. She has been advised to expect his treatment in Children's Hospital to last quite awhile.
Please consider donating to Chris's gofundme to help with her living expenses while she is unable to work. In addition, your donation will go toward Shalin's medical treatment that is not covered by insurance.
